Perfection In A Broken Cistern

Perfection In A Broken Cistern

Past
“Hush, hush” he had told her. “Why do you dream little girl? You hope for a better tomorrow? Well, there is none! Pick up yourself and clean up the place!” He told her in a voice so unfriendly and stern. “You want to return to school little girl? Then go and hustle like your mates eh!” The mockery in his voice was so clear. She looked at him through teary eyes. He was a wolf, a vampire, a child molester! He could not be her father. What father would do this to his child?!

Still towering over her, he looked at her slowly while she was sprawled on the floor, as though deciding what to do with her. Quiet sobs escaped from her slightly parted lips and her face was drenched in sweat, and tears. Then there were the bruises from the repeated blows and beatings that came from his merciless fists. She placed her hands over her mouth as though cautioning herself to be quiet before she gets another slap. There was no love in his gaze. Only lust, fueled by an unholy desire. A desire that pushed him to commit the abominable and yet he felt no regrets. But then how could he? Still gazing at her, he pulled up the zipper on his trousers and headed for the door whistling to himself.

Lying in the darkness, she knew one thing for certain. She hated him. This was not the first time he had forced himself into her.  Neither was it the second, nor the third. She was just fourteen and he had repeatedly robbed her of her innocence. Would she ever grow to love or find comfort in a man’s touch?. She had become his sex slave and it had been nearly a year since she sat within the walls of a school. She raised her head and looked up at the picture of her mother hanging on the wall a good distance from her. Then she recalled the voice and words of her mother on her death bed. “My pendulum” her mum fondly called  her. “Never let anything break you” These words in that moment gave her peace and for sometime she had a clear mind to make a decision. I will run she said till my legs grow weary. I will hustle till I’m rich, I will fight for what is right. I am your pendulum Mama. I won’t stop swinging!.

Present

“Madam” A familiar voice called out as though trying to get her back into the present. Barrister Natasha! The voice called out again this time louder, therefore  jolting her into the present.
“Yes Mrs. Ireti” she answered as she lifted her gaze to meet the sorrowful eyes of the 52 year old woman sitting across her desk.
What did you say happened to your daughter again? Barrister Natasha asked.
“She was beaten” the elderly woman responded. “It was almost to the point of death. I  made her get married as a second wife. I thought  it would ease the financial difficulty in my family, but its been from frying pan  to fire” I need a way out Natasha. The woman said, this time taking hold of her hands from across the desk. Natasha could see the pain in that woman's eyes. She was familiar with pain so she recognized it anywhere.
Still looking at the woman, she spoke  softly and carefully as though trying to make the woman understand every word she will say.

IAM BARRISTER NATASHA Madam. My reputation precedes me. I see you. I feel your daughters hurt, and she will get the Justice she deserves even if the heavens must fall. She will escape her trauma and she will do you proud. There’s always perfection in a broken cistern.

To be continued.

MOTIVATION
Your past may be filled with its hurts and pain. However, don’t let the torture of the past overwhelm you. Your present may seem like it would soon be swept away by a raging storm. Yet in that storm  search around and within for a ray of hope. A reason to keep fighting. The show isn't over until you deliberately decide to take a bow.
Till next time, remember that I’m just a lawyer who loves the pen.
